Based on the nation-wide Foster Grandparent Program model (est. 1963), the Pre-K Mentoring Program is a new initiative for 3 and 4-year-olds at childcare centers in Riviera Beach and surrounding areas to increase their readiness for Kindergarten through a supportive, one-on-one relationship with a mentor.

Mentors are senior volunteers (ages 55+) with the Area Agency on Aging, and in most cases are from the same communities as the childcare centers.  This inter-generational approach bridges the youngest and oldest generations, strengthening bonds within the community.

By developing close relationships with mentors, children learn the social-emotional skills to prepare them for life-long learning such as listening and asking questions. This also helps children to build a foundational understanding of what positive relationships can look like with adults outside of their family; which can lead to stronger and happier relationships with teachers, coaches and other adults in the future.
